Organic Cotton Farming

We have successfully developed our proof-of-concept where we planted and harvested a sample of high-grade non-GMO Cotton seedlings.

As a team, we foresee a shift in conventional Cotton farming practices towards more organic and regenerative methods. We set out to prove that Cotton farming in Ghana can be done using 100% organic farming methods, using non-GMO seedlings that are of a high grade. We are bent on becoming the no.1 business in Ghana and on the African Continent that provides 100% organically farmed, high-grade non-GMO Cotton from Farm-to-Fabric©.

Challenge

We worked tirelessly to prove our concept. Despite a number of challenges the team faced, we were determined to see this through! From changes in rain patterns to even nasty pests, our Cotton still grew! One word that can be used to describe this particular strain is resilient. This greatly encouraged us and we were able to gain a harvest.

How did we overcome our challenges? The region we grew our sample in is known for having a lot of rain. Despite changes in rain patterns we planted within months that were outside normal Cotton planting season - a gamble that paid off! To curtail pests, we had the crops pruned and used organic fertilisers that had pest repelling qualities.

Value

For African textiles to become truly sustainable, we have to start with sustainable and regenerative Cotton farming practices. Although Ghana is not really known for Cotton farming, individual businesses that do farm Cotton, use conventional Cotton farming practices which include the use of harmful pesticides.

WE ARE THE FIRST IN GHANA TO GO ORGANIC!

Our team not only used 100% organic and regenerative farming methods in growing our sample, including hand-harvesting, but also identified a strain of Cotton that can withstand or adapt to changes in weather patterns and is resilient to pests - without having had any genetic modifications.

WE ARE READY TO SCALE!

We are ready to scale our production and develop further technology which will enhance our organic Cotton farming methods. By investing in our business you will become part of the new narrative in bringing organic and regenerative Cotton farming practices from Ghana to the World!
